With the advent of more new hotels, the face of
St. Kitts tourism is changing.
The newest addition to the hotel scene is the huge St. Kitts Marriott Royal
Beach Resort, located in the Frigate Bay area, and it’s put St. Kitts on the map. This
hotel, with 648 rooms, boasts a large casino and convention centre, which has already
been used for many Caribbean-wide meetings. With its six restaurants, disco, cigar
and rum bar, and lobby lounge, the hotel is a major full service facility in the
Caribbean. |

St. Kitts has a long history of welcoming visitors with elegance with its historic
plantation inns, such as Rawlins Plantation Inn and Ottley’s Plantation Inn.
Ottley’s Plantation Inn, located on a 35-acre site near the rain forest, has large,
lovely rooms with wonderful views and boasts a new spa to its list of amenities, which
includes pool, tennis, croquet and rainforest trails.
Not far from Dieppe Bay is Rawlins Plantation Inn, now under new ownership.
It’s accessed by driving through swaying sugar cane fields to the slopes of Mount
Liamuiga. This ten room inn evolved on the site of an 18th century sugar plantation
and provides a quiet getaway for honeymooners or anyone seeking a relaxing holiday.
Look for some exciting new accommodations promied for the 2006-2007 season.
The Golden Lemon Inn and Villas at Dieppe Bay on the north end of the island
celebrates its 44th anniversary in 2007. The owner created this lovely beachfront
property from a 17th century French Huguenot warehouse and added villas with
private plunge pools.
Even without the new Marriott, Frigate Bay still has the largest number of hotel
rooms on the island, like the Frigate Bay Resort with 64 rooms, studios, and shuttle
bus to beaches. The Timothy Beach Hotel is the only hotel located on a Caribbean
beach, overlooking neighbouring Nevis. It’s next to a variety of water sports and
friendly local beach hangouts. Timothy Beach offers 60 rooms with townhouse-style
homes with living rooms and
kitchens.
The Sugar Bay Club has 100
rooms in Frigate Bay with family and
adult pools, a kids’ club, tennis courts
and a fitness room. Both
are located on the beach.
In Basseterre is the 12-room
Palms All-Suite Hotel on the Circus
in town, for comfort and
convenience. Just beyond the deep
water port is the Bird Rock Beach
Hotel, with 46 rooms located in the
Bird Rock section of the capital city
and offering a dive centre. One of the
better known hotels on the island is
the Ocean Terrace Inn (locally
known as OTI), located on the
seafront in Basseterre with 78 rooms
and three restaurants, including the
famous Fisherman’s Wharf for casual
seafood dining.
Aside from the hotels, there are
numerous condominium and villa
rentals available on the island,
apartments and bed and breakfasts,
making it an easy task on St. Kitts to
find just the right place to relax.
